Our Mission.

Welcome!

Welcome to Flour and Fungi! We are a blog based around the FLOUR(Film and Literature Of Urban-agricultural Reform) Co Club here at Summit Prep. What is our mission? Our mission is to try new approaches to Gardening, reinventing the wheel through “Experimental Gardening”, as our founder Brandon Ake states.

Why Tackle Agriculture?

Here at flour and fungi we are trying new approaches to agriculture by exploring agriculture to root. Why go against the grain? If creating “669.5 million metric tons” just to bring food to our plate is the old way of agriculture, then we do not want it (EPA 2020).

Agriculture and Biodiversity.

Are we going to stop climate change? Absolutely not, but we can certainly try. We are destroying Earth’s biodiversity to a point where one million organism are threatened to be extinct by the end of the decade(UN Report, May 6, 2019). These lost species can never be recuperated– billions of years of evolution wiped out within our lifetimes.

Agriculture and the Failing System.

40% of all land in the US is dedicated to agriculture; 13.5 million Americans or 10.2% are food insecure; yet, 30-40% of all food supply is wasted (USDA). What are we doing? We do not need better means of production, we need better legislation to aid in distribution.
